Amish History & Tradition

The Amish Church is part of a reform group of Anabaptists and Mennonites. The Amish people formed their own sect in 1693 when Jacob Amman, a Mennonite Preacher, chose to break from the Mennonites because of his more conservative beliefs. Amman, founder and namesake of the Amish sect, believed that unfaithful members of the church should be shunned by the other members, and believed the Mennonites to be too lax on their tolerance of disobedience. The Amish sect developed in Switzerland, Germany, and the Alsace region, but in 1720 the Amish and Mennonites began to immigrate into the United States. Soon the only groups of living Amish People were in the U.S. settled mainly in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas and Iowa.

In 1850 there was another movement for reform among the Amish people, and they divided themselves into two new orders: the old order, those who were more traditional, and the more liberal group, new order. These groups still exist, and the Amish are still members of close-knit farming communities. They hold church services in Pennsylvania Dutch (mixture of Dutch and German) or sometimes English and continue to separate themselves by wearing homemade, modest clothing, working the land themselves, being non-compliant with the state, and avoiding modern conveniences such as cars, telephones, and computers.

Today the Mennonites and Amish live harmoniously side by side. While visibly differentiated by types of dress and means of transportation, they continue to share the same work ethic, care of the land, and pride in everything they produce.

Amish Naturals is a reflection of these traditions and spirit. Our company and factory are located in the heart of the largest population of the Amish people in the U.S.. Our products are crafted by Amish and Mennonites, working together, to bring you the best tasting, organic pastas you'll ever enjoy.

Amish-Made Products

The Amish have never stopped being organic farmers. They maintain traditional century old farming practices; no pesticides and no chemicals. They never add anything to their farming to enhance or change the natural outcome of how food emerges from the ground. We at Amish Naturals follow these same principles in the creation of our pasta. While our recipes originated in Amish kitchens throughout Ohio's Amish country, we are also incorporating Italy's artisanal pasta making methods and traditions.
